Crank up the radio in your new Ford car!

Ford has announced that it will be incorporating DAB technology into its entire range of new Ford cars by 2012, one year in advance of the industry-enforced deadline and a full three years ahead of the 2015 digital switchover of radio services.

One car to already feature the new technology is the new Ford Focus, but Ford are making efforts to ensure all of its cars are equipped with a DAB radio within the next two years.

Managing Director of Ford of Great Britain, Nigel Sharp, said of the plans: "[The digital switchover] is a looming issue, and we want to be well placed. The fact is that the Focus's radio is future-proofed now, whereas those in our competitors' cars aren't."

"The plan is to extend that across every Ford model in the next 18 months or so. There are technical issues to overcome because, for instance, traffic alerts are broadcast only in FM at the moment, but we are confident we can achieve our goal."

Replacing FM radios with DAB is said to be an environmentally positive change, as the digital signal uses 7 per cent less electricity than an analogue one. Dinnages Ford dealer in Worthing, Burgess Hill and Haywards Heath welcomes the proposed change in the new Ford cars. The West Sussex Ford dealer has a great selection of new Ford and used Ford cars at its showroom.
